Position Summary:
The Director of Transportation oversees all compliance and regulatory requirements, including FMCSA/DOT compliance oversight, Samsara ELD monitoring and management, and the management of IFTA, HUT, and CT permits to ensure the organization maintains full regulatory compliance across all transportation operations.
This role encompasses complete responsibility for driver operations, including driver scheduling and routing, recruiting and staffing initiatives, and the development and enforcement of comprehensive driver safety and training programs to maintain high operational standards and regulatory compliance.
Fleet management represents a core component of this position, involving daily DVIR oversight and documentation, vendor management and coordination, fleet fueling operations, maintenance scheduling and oversight, road call management, and performing minor onsite repairs as needed to maintain fleet readiness and minimize downtime.
The Director directly owns all dispatch and logistics operations, including route optimization and compliance, on-time delivery performance management, contingency planning and execution, capacity and utilization planning, and service territory expansion initiatives. This role has direct ownership of routing and dispatch functions rather than cross-functional oversight.
Cross-functional collaboration is essential to this position, requiring partnership with warehouse operations, coordination with the customer service team, alignment with sales objectives, collaboration with the accounting department, and regular engagement with executive leadership to ensure transportation operations support broader organizational goals.
Additional responsibilities include light warehouse crossover duties such as TruckBuilder operations, dock staging coordination, and return processing oversight to support seamless integration between transportation and warehouse functions.
