Job Summary

Bring Your Leadership to Campus Life - Become the Director of Retail Food Service at Western Washington University!

Are you passionate about delivering exceptional food experiences? Ready to shape the future of campus dining? Chartwells Higher Education is looking for an innovative and driven Director of Retail Food Service to lead our vibrant retail dining operations at Western Washington University.

In this exciting role, you'll oversee multiple high-volume, fast-paced food venues - including national brand concepts - at one of Washington's most beautiful and dynamic university campuses. From managing teams to crafting standout customer experiences, you'll play a key role in transforming how students, faculty, and visitors connect through food.

What You'll Do:

  • Lead and inspire a team of managers, supervisors, and frontline associates across multiple retail locations.
  • Ensure top-tier food quality, customer satisfaction, and brand excellence in every location.
  • Manage financial performance and reporting - driving results while upholding quality and value.
  • Foster a positive, engaging culture through recruitment, training, and team development.
  • Maintain high standards in food safety, sanitation, and compliance with client and company policies.
  • Collaborate on marketing efforts - including social media updates and promotional programs - to keep the campus community excited about dining.
  • Support innovation and continuous improvement across operations.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • B.S. Degree in Food Services Technology/Management or related field; or A.A. Degree plus four years of directly related experience preferred
  • Five to seven years of direct foodservice operational management experience with inventory and purchasing knowledge and control
  • Strong knowledge of food trends with a focus on quality, production, sanitation, food cost controls, and presentation
  • Previous P&L accountability or contract-managed service experience is desirable
  • Strong supervisory, leadership, management and coaching skills
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Ability to communicate on various levels to include management, client, customer and associate levels
  • Excellent financial, budgetary, accounting and computational skills
  • Proficient computer skills to include; various computer programs, Microsoft Office programs, e-mail and the Internet
  • ServSafe Certified
