Recruitment Number OHHI-25167 The current vacancy position is a permanent, full-time position with the Department of Business, Economic Development & Tourism (DBEDT) in Downtown. The recruitment is part of the Operation Hire Hawaii (OH-HI) project, a targeted outreach initiative that expedites hiring of qualified applicants throughout Hawai’i. Salaries Salary: $6,043 to $7,351 per month (SR‑24, Step D to I). Hiring rates depend on availability of funds, the applicant's qualifications, and other relevant factors. Position Overview The Economic Development Specialist series includes positions that involve supervising and participating in the planning, development, and implementation of economic development programs and activities. This Level V position is a senior, fully independent worker. The incumbent conducts research and analysis, develops promotional and industrial expansion programs for industries and commodities, makes recommendations on mainland and foreign marketing of assigned commodities or industries, identifies opportunities for expansion of existing businesses, assists in the development of marketing organizations, and performs related duties as assigned. Responsibilities include independent development of promotional programs and campaigns for the promotion of local products; identification of opportunities for new business or industry establishment, expansion of existing businesses, and attraction of business and industry to Hawai‘i; and conducting research to support such activities. Qualifications Legal Authorization to Work: Must be a citizen, national, or permanent resident alien of the United States or otherwise eligible for unrestricted employment. Basic Education: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four‑year college or university with a major in marketing, business administration, business or commercial law, economics, finance, foreign trade, or a closely related field. Must include completion of three semester credit hours in statistics. Knowledge Requirements: Education must cover general principles of economics, business statistical methodology, and business management and administration. Specialized Experience: Three and one‑half (3‑1/2) years of professional work experience demonstrating knowledge and application of marketing and business feasibility research and analysis; familiarity with product development, pricing, sales, advertising and promotion, distribution, and marketing controls; business practices of wholesale, retail, manufacturing distribution, cost, finance and tax structures; and planning and management, including experience with governmental organizations and programs related to business and economics. Driver's License: Some positions require a valid driver's license at the time of appointment.
