Position Overview:

The Metallurgist provides operational and project support across all metallurgical processes within the forging operation. This role supports order processing and partners with Quality, Engineering, and Production teams to ensure that products are developed, implemented, and continuously improved in alignment with customer requirements. The Metallurgist drives safe, cost-effective, and reliable processes that meet or exceed expectations for quality, consistency, and on-time delivery

Key Responsibilities:

· Metallurgical Expertise & Technical Support: Provide metallurgical guidance across forging, heat treatment, machining, and related processes. Review and approve material certifications, heat lots, and order processing requirements. Conduct failure analyses and root cause investigations on nonconforming materials or products.

· Quality Assurance & Compliance: Develop and maintain metallurgical testing standards, specifications, and procedures. Perform and oversee metallographic analysis, hardness testing, and mechanical evaluations. Ensure compliance with customer requirements, industry standards (ASTM, ASME, NADCAP, etc.), and internal specifications. Prepare detailed technical reports documenting metallurgical evaluations, testing, and corrective actions.

· Process Development & Continuous Improvement: Support the design, implementation, and improvement of forging and heat-treat processes to enhance quality, throughput, and cost efficiency. Partner with Engineering and Production to introduce new products, alloys, and process technologies. Drive continuous improvement initiatives that strengthen product consistency and reduce scrap/rework.

· Customer & Cross-Functional Collaboration Provide technical support to customers regarding metallurgical requirements, specifications, and product performance.

Collaborate with Quality, Engineering, and Production teams to resolve process and product issues. Participate in customer audits, internal audits, and technical reviews to ensure alignment with quality expectations.

· Training & Knowledge Sharing: Educate operators, inspectors, and supervisors on metallurgical requirements and best practices. Serve as a subject-matter resource within the Quality function to support workforce training and technical development.

Qualifications:

· Education: Bachelor’s degree in Metallurgical Engineering, Materials Science, or related field required.

· Experience: 2–5 years’ experience in metallurgical or materials engineering, preferably in forging, heat treatment, or heavy industrial manufacturing.

· Hands-on experience with metallographic preparation, microscopy, mechanical testing, and non-destructive testing is preferred.

· Strong knowledge of ferrous alloys, forging processes, and heat treatment cycles.

· Familiarity with ASTM/AMS/SAE specifications and quality system requirements (ISO, AS9100, or similar).

· Working knowledge of Lean, Six Sigma, and root cause analysis tools.

· Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

· Flexibility to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
