The Rhode Island Public Health Institute (RIPHI) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization whose mission is to reduce health

disparities in Rhode Island and beyond. RIPHI oversees public health programs, and conducts research related topopulation health, and trains students and public health practitioners.

In recent years, RIPHIs programs have attracted local and national media attention as well as local and national awardsfor public health innovation. RIPHI owns and operates Open Door Health, the states first and only LGBTQ+ community

clinic: Open Door Health provides primary care, sexual health care, family planning services, and gender affirming careto Rhode Islands diverse community. Open Door Health also offers express STI screening, which allows patients to

quickly access STI services. RIPHI also hosts a Ryan White HIV treatment and care program at Open Door Health as wellas large HIV prevention programs.

In addition, RIPHI founded several innovative public health programs focused on enhancing food and nutrition security.RIPHI operates Food on the Move, one of the largest mobile produce programs in the country. RIPHI leads Nourish

Rhode Island, a coalition advocating for SNAP incentives in grocery stores to promote healthy eating among SNAPrecipients. SNAP incentives double the value of the dollar when people buy fresh produce. That campaign led to a

statewide program for 140,000 SNAP recipients in Rhode Island; this program doubles the value of the dollar when SNAPrecipients buy fresh produce.

In 2024, RIPHI and Open Door Health began a statewide program to integrate primary care with behavioral healthservices. RIPHI uses population health data in all its research, clinical and charitable service programs. RIPHI recently

adopted a 5-year strategic plan that includes opening and growing both a new research center and a newcommunications center to support RIPHIs work to advance population health. In the last year, RIPHI has secured over$15 million in grant funding and is looking forward to continuing growing our programs and research portfolio inalignment with RIPHIs strategic plan.

During the last several years, RIPHI led several successful advocacy campaigns culminating in legislative victories,legislative appropriations, and statewide policy changes. These were related to food and nutrition, security, hunger

alleviation, HIV policy, access to medicines, and fiscal. RIPHI plans to continue its public health advocacy work in thecoming years.

RIPHIs rapid and currently growing portfolio also includes programs related to food insecurity, nutrition and activeliving, hepatitis C virus (HCV), HIV and other sexually transmitted infections (STIs), pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) toreduce HIV transmission, mental health, social determinants of health, geographically focused health interventions, andother efforts to reduce health disparities. Position Summary:

The Rhode Island Public Health Institute seeks an Internist or Family Practice Physician for Open Door Health, ourcommunity-based clinic in Providence, Rhode Island. Open Door Health is committed to serving Rhode Islands diversecommunity. We offer primary care, gender affirming care, sexual health care, family planning services, and operate awalk-in clinic for sexually transmitted infections. The clinic focuses on sexual health and primary care for members of theLGBTQ+ community as well as Latinx patients.The Physician will report to the Chief Medical Officer at the Clinic and work closely with the clinical team. The Physician

will be responsible for primary care functions at the clinic and providing culturally congruent primary and gender-affirming clinical care, screening patients for HIV and other sexually transmitted infections, and providing other medical

services. The ideal candidate will have experience in providing culturally congruent primary care, sexual health, andgender care and be comfortable with harm reduction practices among people who actively use drugs.

Responsibilities:

Perform primary care functions at Open Door Health.

Provide culturally congruent care to our diverse patient population, with a focus on individuals from the LGBTQ+ community.

Screen patients for HIV and other sexually transmitted infections.

Perform accurate history and physical examinations.

Provide advanced practice skills under the supervision of the Chief Medical Officer.

Use electronic medical records and other database systems to provide accurate documentation of patient encounters.

Follow-up on test results to determine appropriate course of action and further treatment options.

Deliver a high quality of care while meeting expectations related to ongoing quality improvement.

Assist with other clinical and related public health activities identified by the CMO and executive director

Provide gender affirming care to our diverse patient panel.

Requirements, Experience & Knowledge:

Medical degree with current, non-probationary licensure in the State of Rhode Island.

Board certification in Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, Medicine and Pediatrics required. Other specialties are welcome but not required.

Previous experience providing care in ambulatory care settings.

Previous experience providing gender affirming care and/or addiction medicine services is highly desirable.

Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.

Proficiency with electronic medical records; Experience with Athenahealth is a plus.

Able to multi-task and meet deadlines.

Bi-lingual/bi-cultural Spanish or Portuguese is highly desirable.

Experience providing culturally congruent and affirming care to sexual and gender minorities as well as racial and ethnic minorities.

Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment with rapid growth in patient panels.

Conversant in research terminology, capable supporting our ongoing research studies.
