American University Washington College of Law (AUWCL) seeks applications for the 2025-2026 academic year for a temporary reference librarian. Candidates must hold a J.D. and an M.L.S. We seek candidates who are committed to advancing the academic success, and the scholarly, research, and curricular needs of our students and faculty. The Temporary Librarian’s duties include providing in-person and virtual legal and non-legal reference and research services to the Law School's faculty, staff, students, and alumni; participating in the Library’s virtual reference rotation and Faculty liaison program; assisting with reference and research requests; creating and updating asynchronous research guides; participating in teaching 1L Legal Rhetoric Research modules; providing guest lectures; participating in law library statistical and assessment functions; researching emerging trends in publishing and library services; attending meetings for assigned groups including WRLC Consortium and AU WCL Pence Law Library committees; assisting with administration and maintenance of Digital Commons; and other duties as assigned. Requirements include a J.D. from an accredited U.S. law school, a Masters in Library Science or equivalent, 1 to 3 years of library experience with automated systems, knowledge of academic law library practices, in-depth knowledge of Lexis, Westlaw, and Bloomberg Law, practical computer skills, accuracy, ability to work independently, problem-solving skills, and excellent communication skills. The position may qualify for hybrid working hours. Hiring is contingent on successful background check. Employees must deliver services from DC, Maryland, or Virginia or on-site at the university.
