Job Summary Under the direction of the Patient Experience Operations Manager, the Spanish Interpreter provides medical interpretation for clinical and non-clinical encounters to enable communication between patients and families who are limited English proficient and/or hearing impaired and clinicians and other hospital staff. Interpretation will be provided in person or by telephone in compliance with National Standards of Practice and Code of Ethics, Brigham and Women's Hospital policies and procedures, and Interpreter Services guidelines to ensure patient safety and access to quality care. Essential Functions Respond promptly to face-to-face or telephone interpretation requests throughout the hospital, prioritizing emergency and urgent cases. Accurately interpret complex medical information in understandable terms. Qualifications Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent required; Associate's Degree preferred. Experience: Fluency in English and Spanish, both written and verbal, required. Two years of healthcare-related experience in a role with direct patient contact preferred. Knowledge of culture-specific care is advantageous. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Adherence to I C.A.R.E. Standards, strong concentration, cultural sensitivity, linguistic and interpreting skills, interpersonal skills, ability to follow directions, high customer service orientation, and team-building skills.
