Under the direction of the registered nurse, the purpose of this position is to protect and promote health, prevent illness and injury, and alleviate suffering through nursing diagnosis and treatment. In partnership with the registered nurse, demonstrates leadership in the professional practice setting through oversight of the interdisciplinary health care team to provide holistic care and advocate for patients and families served. Required license/certification: BLS. Preferred: Current CA Certified Nursing Assistant certification. Education required: ASN students with completion of 3rd semester or BSN students with completion of 4th semester in an accredited RN Program. Concurrent enrollment in a BRN approved Work Study Course through an affiliated school is required. The Student Nurse Intern (SNI) under direct supervision of the RN performs functions only when school is in session, collaborating and communicating with patients, families, and healthcare providers, formulating care plans with RN, and performing validated skills. SNIs work under supervision of a KH RN preceptor and are responsible for basic bedside care and selected nursing procedures. Some duties require RN presence such as medication administration and IV therapy. SNIs may perform certain duties continuously upon completion of position/unit specific competencies including reporting patient condition changes, assisting with patient needs, maintaining confidentiality, complying with policies, assisting nursing staff, providing post-mortem care, emergency care participation, and maintaining professional appearance. Demonstrates knowledge and skills appropriate to the population served and communicates effectively with patients and families. Performs other duties as assigned.
