Theatre Accompanist (Non-benefited)

The Virginia Commonwealth University School of the Arts (VCUarts) is seeking applicants for Theatre Accompaniment for the Department of Theatre. In this role, musicians will provide support for the Musical Theatre class. Theatre accompanists are expected to be thoughtful and proactive members of the Theatre community and have a desire to work with a diverse student population in a collaborative, inclusive and learning-centered collective.

Responsibilities include:

• Play piano; accompanists may play piano for class, rehearsals, auditions, or performances
• Accompanists may work closely with students and teachers, need to be able to relate well to students
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

• One (1) year of experience playing for Musical Theatre classes at the collegiate, professional, or pre-professional level; or equivalent in related training, education, and/or experience.
• Ability to sight-read provided music and improvise in various styles as needed
• Prior experience working with singers
• Working knowledge of musical theatre repertoire
• Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU
